Premier League Standings: Liverpool Continue To Press Manchester City At The Top

JAKARTA – Liverpool managed to narrow the distance with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings to one point. This came after a 2-0 win over Everton in a lively Merseyside derby on Sunday 24 April.

In the match which was held at Liverpool's headquarters at Anfield Stadium, the hosts struggled to destroy the visitors in the first half. However, it didn't work out and didn't even make a shot on goal.

This is the second time in the league competition this season Liverpool have failed to register a shot on target in the first half of a home game. Previously that bad record happened against Manchester City last October.

Meanwhile, Everton have only completed 32 first-half passes at Anfield or the fewest a team has made in an opening Premier League game since November 2006 when they made just 30 passes against Watford against Portsmouth.

Only in the second half of the match, the Reds' victory was determined by goals scored by Andrew Robertson in the 62nd minute and Divock Origi in the 85th minute.

Origi has scored six goals against Everton in all competitions for Liverpool. That's twice as many goals as he's scored against any other team for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Robertson's header made Liverpool have scored the most headers of any team in the Premier League this season, with 13 goals. Of that number two goals were recorded in the name of Robertson.

Earlier, City opened up a four-point lead over the Reds in the table with a 5-1 win over Watford on Saturday. However, the win over Everton meant that Jurgen Klopp's squad remained tight against their rivals in the race for the Premier League title.

Currently City lead with a collection of 80 points from 33 matches that have been played. Meanwhile, Liverpool followed with the acquisition of 79 points from the same number of matches.

Meanwhile, this defeat meant that Everton had to drop to 18th position or the relegation zone after Burnley, who were previously in that place, won at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Before the match, Liverpool collected 76 points, while and Everton 29. The two are separated by 47 points in the Premier League table or become the largest points gap between the two sides when facing each other in the league competition.
