Marc Klok Wants To Flood Achievements With The Indonesian National Team, The Closest Target For Hanoi SEA Games Gold

JAKARTA - Marc Klok wants to be able to get as many achievements as possible with the Indonesian national team. The closest target is the 2021 Hanoi SEA Games gold medal.

The Dutch-born player has officially strengthened the Garuda squad as of April. He has even been called up to be a senior player in the Garuda squad for the Hanoi SEA Games later.

The 28-year-old player has fulfilled the absolute requirements to become a naturalized player because he has lived in Indonesia for five years.

"But I think this journey is just starting. I want to take many achievements with the [Indonesian] national team, want to win, take gold at the SEA Games later. This is my target, I have to work hard," said the Dutch-born player at the Madya Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

Klok is actually enjoying his holiday in the Netherlands after wading through the Indonesian League 1. However, he was willing to sacrifice cutting his rest time in order to join the U-23 Indonesian national team training camp.

Klok was one of 29 names called by head coach Shin Tae-yong. He along with Fachruddin Aryanto, Irfan Jaya, Marc Klok, and Ricky Kambuaya, are included in the list of senior players.

He said that with the young players who were called up, Indonesia should be able to bring home a gold medal from the biennial event.

"There are many qualities of young players in Indonesia. We could see it at the AFF yesterday. I think with the SEA Games, this squad should take gold and hopefully I can give you a little experience on the field and off the field as well," he said.

The SEA Games Hanoi will take place on May 12-23. The Indonesian football team is targeted to bring home a gold medal from the two-year event after being runner-up in 2019 in the Philippines.

Klok and his friends were included in Group A with Vietnam as the host and Myanmar, the Philippines and Timor Leste. Indonesia last won gold at the SEA Games in 1991 when it was held in Manila.
