JAKARTA - Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin took his second pole position of the season at the United States MotoGP at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA), Austin, Texas on Saturday as Ducati dominated the top five starting positions on the grid during qualifying.

Martin had to survive Q1 first before conquering the final qualifying round with a best of two minutes 2.039 seconds to beat Jack Miller by a narrow 0.003 seconds, and his factory Ducati team mate Francesco Bagnaia who completed the first row start.

Johann Zarco (Pramac) and Enea Bastianini (Gresini) confirmed the dominance of the Desmosedici motorcycle in the top five, 0.5 seconds away from the pole sitter, according to the official MotoGP website.

Martin, who finished runner-up in Argentina last week, has now secured a starting position from the front row in the opening four races of the season.

Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez had his worst qualifying result in Austin and will start from P9 when the Repsol Honda rider returns to the road after missing the Argentine GP.

He missed the Termas de Rio Hondo race due to a double vision injury caused by an accident at the Indonesian Grand Prix last month.

Marquez has so far ruled the Circuit of the Americas with seven wins from eight races held in Austin, Texas.

World champion Fabio Quartararo of the Yamaha team, fastest in practice, will start from P6 after crashing in qualifying.

Leaders Aleix Espargaro of the Aprilia team missed out on going into Q2 after falling in the first qualifying round.

The 32-year-old Spaniard, who won his first MotoGP win in a brilliant performance in Argentina, will start from P13.
