JAKARTA – Deputy Chief de Mission Tubagus Ade Lukman emphasized that sports (sports) that did not go to the Hanoi SEA Games were advised to continue to carry out coaching programs to improve performance. One of them is taking part in single events at the Asian level or at the international level.

"So that one day they can represent Indonesia in the upcoming multi-events," said Ade Lukman to VOI.

The government has confirmed that it will only dispatch 476 athletes to the two-year event from the number of sports mentioned above.

The decision was the result of a review of a team consisting of academics from Jakarta State University (UNJ), Surabaya State University (Unesa), Indonesian Education University (UPI) Bandung and a number of other universities, sports practitioners, the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI).

Based on the results of the review, there were at least 15 sports that were not dispatched even though these sports were competed at the SEA Games Hanoi later. The sport that was not dispatched was due to the reasons for the lack of achievement and organizational problems.

"We hope that the sport itself must also show its achievements in a single event that is always there for each sport," said Ade Lukman.

The government will dispatch 246 athletes from 24 sports including the National Sports Grand Design (DBON) to the Hanoi SEA Games. Meanwhile, from non-DBON, 230 athletes from 18 sports were dispatched.

The 2021 SEA Games Hanoi is the 31st edition of the multi-sport event in the Southeast Asian region. The event was originally scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 2, 2021. However, it had to be moved to May 12 to 23, 2022 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
