JAKARTA – The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) has officially signed Flandy Limpele as a mixed doubles coach. He will join the PBSI training center (Pelatnas) in April 2022.

Head of Development and Achievement (Kabid Binpres) Rionny Mainaky confirmed this a few hours after it was officially announced that Flandy did not want to extend his contract with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on Monday, 28 March.

"Flandy will help the mixed doubles team. We welcome him with pleasure," said Rionny in a statement received by VOI.

Flandy has a track record as an experienced, committed, and disciplined coach. This background made PBSI decide to appoint him to assist in the National Training.

In addition, he also successfully led Malaysian men's doubles Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik to win a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. As a player, he won a bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics with his partner Eng Hian.

"Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles with Vita Marissa, she was ranked fourth or semifinalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. We hope that lessons and experiences can be shared with our athletes," said Rionny.

Flandy's presence is expected to help coach Nova Widianto to qualify two mixed doubles representatives for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Besides Flandy, PBSI also signed a contract with Namrih Suroto as assistant coach of the women's doubles pratama.
