JAKARTA – Malaysia's men's doubles coach from Indonesia, Flandy Limpele, has officially resigned from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). He refused to extend the contract with the badminton parent of the neighboring country.

BAM has confirmed Flandy's decision on Monday, March 28. The 48-year-old coach is officially no longer a coach at BAM starting April 1, 2022.

"We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Flandi for his dedication and commitment and wish him success in his future endeavors," BAM said in a statement.

It is reported that Flandy will return to his hometown to Indonesia to rejoin the All-Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) next week. At PBSI he will start his new assignment as the new coach of Indonesian mixed doubles.

According to BAM, they have tried to offer new terms when proposing a contract extension for Flandy. However, Flandy himself did not want to extend his contract.

"After careful consideration and discussion with doubles head coach Rexy Mainaky, I feel this is the right time for me to step down. I am grateful to have had the privilege of serving with BAM since July 2020," said Flandy.

Rexy, who joined late last year, thanked Flandy for helping to strengthen the men's doubles sector.

"He has laid the groundwork in the men's doubles department for us to build on and he has contributed to unforgettable moments. I am proud of the work we have done together. I wish him all the best in the next round," said Rexy.

Flandy became the second coach from Indonesia who this year relinquished his coaching position from BAM. Previously, Indra Wijaya also ended his duties as Malaysia's women's singles coach and accepted an offer to train independent player Lee Zii Jia.
