JAKARTA – Indonesian men's singles badminton player Jonatan Christie has tested positive for COVID-19. This is known based on the results of the PCR test held by the German Open 2022 committee on Thursday, March 10 local time.

The news of the infection of the badminton player who is familiarly called Jojo was confirmed by Irwansyah as the coach who accompanied the team in the BWF Super 300 level tournament.

Jojo is known to be positive after undergoing a match against Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand. In the match that was won by the Thai representative, Jonathan's test results had not yet come out.

"It was only after the match that Jojo informed me that he had tested positive while all the other teams had negative results," Irwansyah said in an official statement from PBSI received by VOI.

In the match against Vitidsarn, Jojo already showed indications of being infected with COVID-19 in the second set. All the muscles feel stiff, especially in the thighs.

In that match Jojo appeared unsatisfactory and had to give up with a score of 20-22, 9-21. That appearance was a far cry from when he had fought Li Shi Feng the day before.

"I didn't think about being positive for COVID-19, but maybe that's a symptom, especially when Jojo is also in the second game, so he often takes deep breaths like he's physically exhausted," said Irwansyah.

Jojo immediately underwent quarantine in a hotel room after testing positive. Meanwhile, his roommate, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, was moved to another room.

Even though he was in the same room, Anthony actually got a negative result. In fact, he also complained that his muscles were stiff before losing the match against Lakshya Sen from India.

"I haven't been able to evaluate the game much because it turns out that the conditions are like this. In terms of training and preparation they have been very good and maximal, there are no obstacles at all," said Irwansyah.

The coach who was born in Medan on June 10, 1974 wished the best for his team during the PCR test on Saturday, March. The reason is, Jojo and Anthony are scheduled to go to the All England tournament after Germany.

"Yes, I hope and pray that tomorrow's PCR test results will be good. We ask for prayers from all Indonesian people so that we will be given health and strength so that we can compete in All England next week," hoped Irwansyah.
