Indonesia Only Has Mixed Doubles Left At The 2022 German Open, Jojo And Ginting Are Kicked Out

JAKARTA – The Indonesian badminton team left only two mixed doubles representatives in the quarter-finals of the German Open 2022. Men's singles and men's doubles were eliminated earlier than the BWF Super 300 tournament.

The two remaining mixed doubles pairs are Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Chrystine Bandaso.

Rinov/Pitha became the first representatives to get tickets to the quarter-finals after defeating representatives of Japan, Yuki Kaneko/Misaki Matsutomo, in straight sets.

"Today we played focused, dared to attack from the start and trusted each other with partners," said Pitha in a written statement, after the match.

Statistically, Pitha and his partner have a head-to-head advantage over the Japanese pair. The mainstay of the PBSI Pelatnas recorded a 2-1 win-lose lead. Those advantages include the rubber game victory that occurred at the Denmark Open last year.

"Earlier, Rinov and I were more prepared than at the last meeting. They forced me to play fast and didn't let them attack. Rinov was right, they weren't in the best form either. That might be the difference this time," said Pitha.

Meanwhile, Adnan/Mychelle followed their compatriots after beating Danish representatives Mikkel Mikkelsen/Rikke Soby with a score of 21-13, 21-14 in 33 minutes.

In contrast to the mixed doubles, the Indonesian representatives in the men's singles event had bad luck. This is after the two mainstay representatives, Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, were eliminated.

Jonathan, who is the sixth seed, could not go far after being defeated by the Thai badminton player, Kunlavut Vitidsarn. Meanwhile, Anthony, who is the fourth seed, was knocked out at the hands of India's representative, Lakshya Sen, after 34 minutes of playing.

Indonesia also lost its only representative in the men's doubles number of the German Open 2022. Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto stopped at the hands of the Chinese pair He Ji Ting/Zhou Hao Dong.
