JAKARTA – Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, is reported to be in Turkey. He is due to meet with Turkish billionaire Muhsin Bayrak to discuss the sale of Chelsea.

The Russian tycoon flew to Turkey on a luxury jet worth £48 million (Rp913 billion). He is understood to have landed in Istanbul on Wednesday, March 2, before flying to the Turkish capital in Ankara.

Abramovich is currently looking for a buyer for his club. He was forced to cut ties with the Blues due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.

Previously, four potential buyers had been offered. Now, that number has increased with the entry of Bayrak as the strongest prospective buyer for the London-based club.

Chelsea reportedly want to be released at a price of IDR 57 trillion. However, the sudden sale made Abramovich struggle to find a buyer who could afford such a large amount.

Abramovich, who waived the club's £1.5 billion debt, seems keen to ensure Chelsea fall into the right hands. He had spent the last few days talking to potential buyers.

Bayrak himself has claimed that he is in negotiations with Abramovich. Talks are now almost reached and approaching the signing process.

"We are negotiating terms for the purchase of Chelsea with lawyer Roman Abramovich. We are in the negotiation stage for signing. We will soon fly the Turkish flag in London," Bayrak was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

“We put forward our offer. Because of the war with Russia and Ukraine in the world. Because they think Turkey is safe, they want to get most of the after-sales money in Turkey. We plan to sign it soon,” the claim continued.

It is not surprising that Bayrak is one of the strongest potential buyers. The reason, according to some reports, the Turk has assets worth USD 11 billion (approximately Rp. 158.2 trillion).
