JAKARTA - Premier League referees will allow players to show their support for Ukraine, following the invasion of the country by Russia.

Many sports stars have voiced their support for Ukraine since the Russian invasion. it was seen last weekend in the Premier League and during the Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Manchester City players wore "No War" jerseys, while Everton players took to the pitch wearing the yellow and blue colors of the Ukrainian flag at Goodison Park.

Aston Villa's Matty Cash even celebrated his goal against Brighton by removing his shirt to show a message of solidarity for Poland international team-mate Tomasz Kedziora, who plays for Dynamo Kyiv.

The message read "Kindergarten and Family Stay Strong My Bro" but Cash was shown a yellow card for taking off his shirt by referee John Brooks.

Steven Gerrard admitted responsibility for Cash's yellow card following their 2-0 win.

"I should have spoken to the players before the game and told them 'If you score, stay calm'," said Gerrard.

"We all have to respect the situation and I think that's what Matty is trying to do. But I will definitely be responsible for it.

"Nothing wrong with Matty. Everyone has different feelings. It's my fault."

Following the yellow card given to Cash, a debate arose. And now, referees have reportedly been instructed to show understanding and empathy for players who support Ukraine.

Solidarity and support for Ukraine is expected to continue throughout this midweek FA Cup and Premier League fixtures across England.
