Think Against Nazism, Russian Boxer Alexander Povetkin Supports Russia's Invasion Of Ukraine

JAKARTA – Former Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin supports his country's invasion of Ukraine. He considered the rise of Nazism in the neighboring country to be resisted.

Povetkin's support was poured through the latest uploads on his personal Instagram. He considered the decision made by the Russian leaders was right.

“There is power in truth. This famous saying uttered by Sergey Bodrov [the late actor] reflects the essence of what is happening in Ukraine,” Povetkin wrote on Instagram to accompany a photo of him posing in front of the Russian flag, quoted by Marca.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a military operation into Ukraine on Thursday, February 24. Until now big cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv, still continue to face the onslaught of Russian troops.

Ukrainian and Russian officials previously held peace talks Monday, February 28 for the first time. However, both sides agreed to resume talks and will meet again in the next few days.

“We fought for the truth all along, while the Slavs were exterminated in the Donbass. That's why I support his (Vladimir Putin's) decision to defend ordinary people, against Nazism, parasites no matter who they are."

Despite supporting Russia in carrying out its aggression against Ukraine, Povetkin hopes that the current situation will recover soon. “Every war has an end. Let's hope this too will end in the next few days," he wrote.

Povetkin's stance on supporting the Russian invasion is different from that of other Russian athletes, such as world number one Daniil Medvedev and world number six Andrey Rublev. The two players who are compact regret the invasion of their country.
