Klopp Confirms Not Chasing City, Just Trying To Win Every Game

JAKARTA - Liverpool's 6-0 victory over Leeds in the postponed match week 19 of the 2021/2022 English League made the Reds cut the distance with the leader of the standings, Manchester City. This opens up opportunities for Liverpool to overtake the top closer.

However, when asked about the opportunity to overtake City, Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool coach openly denied it. Klopp actually admitted he was not focused on that point, because the important thing for him is to keep winning games without thinking too much about chasing first place.

"We're not chasing City, we're trying to win our ball game," Klopp said after the match against Leeds, quoted by Sky Sport.

In the match at Anfield Stadium on Thursday, February 24 in the early hours of WIB, the Reds appeared mighty in front of their own supporters by rolling out Leeds with a final score of 6-0. Half a dozen Liverpool goals were contributed by Mohamed Salah's penalty brace, Sadio Mane's brace, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.

Despite winning, Klopp again reminded the team not to celebrate the fun for too long. Because after this they have to fight again in the Carabao cup competition. In that tournament they will again compete with The Citizens.

"Obviously we're going to play in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend, City played before and maybe won, so it could be six more points before we play the next game."

"I'm not sure if we'll play before or after them (City) after that, so it could be nine points away. We don't have to count things like this, we just have to win our games," Klopp explained.

With a big win over Leeds, Liverpool got three points which made them sit in second place in the standings with a total of 60 points. That number is only three points away from Man City who are at the top with 63 points.
