JAKARTA - Former world number one Andy Murray suffered a brutal 0-6, 1-6 defeat to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round of the Qatar Open, Wednesday local time or Thursday WIB.

Murray, a two-time champion at the tournament, has never come close to the form he showed the previous day when he beat Japan's Taro Daniel in less than an hour against the second seed.

The 34-year-old led Bautista Agut to deuce on serve in the opening game but only managed to collect five more points in the set.

Murray held serve for control early in the second set but Bautista Agut took the next five games to advance to the quarter-finals.

The match was the heaviest loss for three-time Grand Slam champion Murray since winning by only one set against Roger Federer in the ATP Finals in London in 2014.

Meanwhile, top seed Denis Shapovalov reached the last eight with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Slovakia's Alex Molcan.
