Atalanta Vs Fiorentina Match Ends 2-3, Atalanta Is Dramatically Eliminated

JAKARTA - The bitter pill had to be swallowed after the crucial match ended in defeat in the Atalanta vs. Fiorentina match. Atalanta were knocked out of the Coppa Italia after a dramatic 2-3 loss at home to 10-man Fiorentina on Friday morning WIB.

Nikola Milenkovic decided Fiorentina's victory with his goal in the 90+3 minute when for the last 14 minutes they had to play with ten men.

Fiorentina are now looking forward to either Juventus or Sassuolo who will be their opponents in the next two-legged semi-final.

Both teams suffered heavy losses in Serie A, injured and lost big players in the January transfer window.

The match was dramatic from the start when VAR alerted the referee that Marten de Roon stepped on Nico Gonzalez's foot right on the line.

Kryzsztof Piatek then converted a penalty kick which was also his ninth goal in 11 appearances in the Coppa Italia.

A curling shot from Nico Gonzalez was saved by the goalkeeper, while Jeremie Boga's stab from his own defense was blocked by Igor. Meanwhile, Ruslan Malinovsyi's efforts went wide of the goal.

Atalanta equalized from a stunning goal from Davide Zappacosta who curled into the far top corner from a tricky angle.

The hosts took the lead just before half-time when Zappacosta crossed for Boga but his footwork failed to get the ball into the net, while Mario Articleic missed the rebound.

Piatek's header that saw Cristiano Biraghi's free-kick go narrowly over the bar, but Atalanta turned things around when Boga rounded defender Lucas Martinez-Quarta to find the ball into the Fiorentina net. It was his first goal for Atalanta since leaving Sassuolo in January.

La Viola was awarded another penalty when Teun Koopmeiners was late to stop Youssef Maleh who was already without the ball and was declared a foul. Piatek's penalty was saved by Musso, but he quickly grabbed the rebound to make it 2-2.

Fiorentina were down to 10 men when Martinez-Quarta received his second yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Muriel.

Quoting the football-italian website, the drama was not over when Crisitano Biraghi's free kick was converted by substitute Nikola Milenkovic into a goal from the edge of the box into the bottom far corner.

It took VAR a few minutes to check for potential handball and offside, but the referee later declared a goal legal. Fiorentina also won 3-2 over Atalanta.
