Jokowi's Lip Service To Issue KPK Perppu

JAKARTA - If there are no obstacles, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will inaugurate five KPK Supervisory Board members on Friday, December 20. In the midst of the news of the inauguration, the anti-corruption community and society are still waiting for Jokowi to issue the KPK Perppu.

The reason is, Jokowi has promised to issue a KPK Perppu to replace the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019 which is considered to weaken the anti-graft agency. Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) also considers the discourse to be a figment, playing tricks on the public.

"Some time ago the President promised to issue a Perppu, but at the same time he had even prepared the names of the KPK Supervisory Board," said Kurnia in a written statement to reporters, Thursday, December 19.

In fact, according to Kurnia, the council, which is for the first time in an anti-corruption agency, has the potential to undermine the independence of law enforcement. "The Supervisory Board is one of the many components in the new KPK Law that has the potential to damage," he said.

This anti-corruption activist then emphasized that Jokowi's discourse on issuing the KPK Perppu after inviting anti-corruption activists at the Presidential Palace some time ago was only a form of lip-service or an effort to please all parties.

This was proven by the fact that the KPK Supervisory Board was still appointed. "The discourse on the issuance of the Perppu is merely a lip service to President Joko Widodo, which will never be realized," he said.

The names that were rumored to be the Supervisory Board

Even though the rejection occurred, Jokowi seems to have pocketed the name that will be sworn in tomorrow. One of the names that strengthened was former Supreme Court Judge (MA) Artidjo Alkostar, Judge Albertina Ho, and former KPK leader Taufiequrahman Ruki.

It's just that, even though her name is included as a candidate for Dewas KPK, Albertina Ho admitted that she had not been contacted by the Presidential Palace to report this. He actually knew that his name was entered as one of the candidates after reading it on social media.

"That has just been mentioned in the media. It's normal anyway. Pak Jokowi calls the candidate from this. His name is also a candidate," he told reporters, Thursday, December 19.

Albertina said there was no plan if she really became the KPK Supervisory Board. Because, official news has not been received by him either. "We just leave it to the Almighty. Whatever happens according to God's will, it is like that," he said.

It is known that this 51-year-old woman now serves as Deputy Chair of the High Court in Kupang. In 2018, Albertina also registered as a Supreme Judge but she only passed the administrative selection because during the competency test her score was not enough to pass to the next stage.
