The Attorney General's Office Will Investigate Allegations Of Bribery Behind Harvey Moeis' Light Sentence, As Long As There Is A Report

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has stated that it will investigate allegations of bribery and gratuities behind Harvey Moeis' light sentence. As long as there is sufficient preliminary report and evidence.

"Unless there is a report or complaint about it (alleged bribery and gratification)," said Head of the Attorney General's Office, Harli Siregar, to VOI, Monday, December 30.

Currently, investigators have not investigated the alleged irregularities in Harvey Moeius' decision. The AGO is still focused on preparing an appeal file against the first-degree judicial decision.

"We are currently focusing on the legal action process that has been taken, namely the appeal," said Harli.

Regarding Harvey Moeis' light sentence, the Judicial Commission (KY) will also investigate allegations of violations of the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct of Judges (KEPPH).

This step was taken in response from the public who considered the verdict too light for the defendants who had caused state losses of Rp. 300 trillion.

"KY will also investigate the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court to see if there are allegations of violations (KEPPH) that occurred," said KY spokesman Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata.

Harvey Moeis was found guilty in a corruption case in the management of tin commodity trading. Thus, the panel of judges sentenced him to 6.5 years in prison.

"The defendant was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison," said the judge.

This criminal sentence is lighter than the prosecutor's demands. Because, at the previous trial, the prosecutor charged Harvey Moeis with imprisonment for 12 years.

However, the judge also imposed a fine on Sandra Dewi's husband in the amount of Rp. 1 billion.

"A fine of Rp. 1 billion, provided that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 6 months," said the judge.
