JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, assessed that there was no point in arguing about the appointment of PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect by the KPK who was accused of being political.

"In our opinion, there is no point, it is useless for us to argue whether this case has a political background or not because it can be very, very subjective," Habiburokhman said in a video statement to reporters, Tuesday, December 24.

According to him, the case against Hasto Kristiyanto can be carried out transparently and professionally by the KPK. Where the KPK must be able to prove the determination of the suspect in accordance with applicable law.

"The most important thing is that this case must be carried out, it must be examined with the principle of openness. And all the allegations along with all rebuttals must also be proven by evidence in accordance with applicable legal provisions," he said.

The chairman of Commission III of the DPR respects the legal process carried out by the KPK as well as respects the defense that will be conveyed by Hasto.

"We of course respect the attitude of the KPK in carrying out its authority. On the other hand, we also respect the right of Mr. HK (Hasto Kristiyanto) to defend itself based on the provisions of the applicable legislation," explained Habiburokhman.

Previously reported, the KPK officially announced the Secretary General of the PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect in the bribery case of Harun Masiku.

KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto explained that Hasto was actively involved in carrying out and arranging the bribery of former General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan with Harun Masiku.

"Brother HK cooperated with Harun Masiku and then brother Saeful Bahri and brother Donny Tri Istiqomah bribed Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani Tio," Setyo said at a press conference at the KPK building, Tuesday, December 24.

Hasto is also suspected of regulating and controlling the process of drafting legal studies and encouraging the KPU to make interim changes (PAW) for the elected PDIP candidates in the 2019 Legislative Election to be replaced by Harun Masiku.

Setyo revealed that Hasto was also suspected of deliberately obstructing the investigation into the Harun Masiku case, which is currently still at large.

"Deliberately preventing, obstructing, or thwarting directly or indirectly investigating corruption," explained Setyo.
