JAKARTA - Artist Yos Suprapto stated that there was disagreement between himself, the Indonesian National Gallery (GalNas), and the former curator being the reason behind his decision to withdraw his works from the exhibition which was originally scheduled to be held.
"We agreed to disagree on the approach of works and narratives from works related to the theme of this exhibition," said Yos as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 23.
He also revealed that the former curator who was previously involved had officially resigned from the curatorial program.
It was this condition that made Yos decide to bring his works home from the National Gallery.
"I am waiting for the director of GalNas who is said to be having a meeting in Senayan. But if it waits too long, I will go to the security guard to ask for the key. Today, I will lower my works," he said.
Yos is now preparing to immediately take this step, marking the end of the polemic that accompanies his exhibition plans.
In fact, Yos has prepared a truck that is alerted to transport his paintings inside GalNas.
On the other hand, Yos felt that his works were made based on the results of scientific research that had been carried out, and were described as works of art.
The paintings and installations that are planned to be exhibited highlight the issue of land damage and the importance of sustainable farming methods.
The Yos exhibition, which carries the theme Revival: Land For Food Sovereignty, aims to highlight how farmers' agricultural land is increasingly marginalized.
The exhibition, which shows as many as 30 paintings, should have been held and opened to the public on December 20 to January 19 at Building A, the Indonesian National Gallery in Gambir, Central Jakarta.
