BMKG Predicts Majority Of Indonesia's Big Cities Potentially Rain

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts rain weather with various intensities can be experienced by almost all major cities in Indonesia with various rain intensity today.

BMKG forecaster Yohanes Agung Kristomo said that almost all major cities on the island of Sumatra have the potential to rain with various intensities except Banda Aceh which is predicted to experience thick cloudy weather.

He said that BMKG predicts light rain intensities will occur in the cities of Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Pekanbaru, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang and Bandar Lampung.

And moderate-intensity rain can be experienced by people in Medan, Bengkulu and Palembang.

"In general, the islands of Java are forecasted for light rain for the Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta and Surabaya areas," he explained as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, December 14.

Meanwhile, BMKG predicts rain accompanied by lightning can occur in Denpasar, Mataram and Kupang areas.

Rain conditions have the potential to occur in all provincial capitals on the island of Kalimantan, including light rain in Pontianak and Banjarmasin, moderate rain in Samarinda and thunderstorms in Tanjung Selor and Palangkaraya.

On the island of Sulawesi, only Gorontalo which is predicted to experience cloudy weather with other cities can experience rainy conditions with various intensities.

Light rain has the potential to occur in Manado, Makassar, Palu and Kendari as well as thunderstorms in Mamuju.

In eastern Indonesia, light rain is predicted by BMKG to occur in Ambon, Ternate, Manokwari and Jayapura areas.

With the potential for moderate rain in Sorong, Jayawijaya and Merauke as well as thunderstorms in the Nabire area.
