JAKARTA - Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked major hospitals still functioning in al-Fashir, North Darfur, Sudan.

The attack killed nine people and injured 20 people, according to a local health official and activist.

Reported by Reuters on Friday, December 13, the drone shot the hospital overnight, destroying wards, waiting rooms, and other facilities, state Health Minister Ibrahim Khatir said.

The photo they shared showed debris strewn across hospital beds and damaging ceilings and walls. RSF said it was not targeting civilians.

Sudanese and RSF troops have been in conflict for more than 18 months, sparking a severe humanitarian crisis that forced more than 12 million people to flee their homes. Meanwhile, the UN agency had difficulty providing assistance.

Al-Fashir is one of the most active front lines between the RSF and the Sudanese army and its allies, who are struggling to maintain a final foothold in the Darfur region.

Observers fear that the victory of the RSF there will lead to ethnic retaliatory as happened in West Darfur last year.

Nearby Zamzam's camp, which experts say is a place of hunger among a population of more than half a million people, has also been hit by RSF artillery strikes over the past two weeks, forcing thousands of people to leave the camp.

Soldiers retaliated with airstrikes targeting al-Fashir and surrounding cities.

This week they launched one of the deadliest attacks in the war, killing more than 100 people in the city of Kabkabiya.

At the UN Security Council earlier this week, Sudan accused the United Arab Emirates of carrying out drone attacks for RSFs from Amdjarass in Chad, targeting al-Fashir and other cities in northern Sudan and supplying weapons and training.
