Menkum Called To The Palace, President Prabowo Wants To Give Amnesty To A Number Of Prisoners

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting (ratas) with a number of related ministers at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Friday afternoon, December 13. One of the discussions relates to the handling of inmates or prisoners.

"There is a meeting related to the handling of the inmates, but later it will be clearer, the presidential spokesman will explain it, after it is finished, I will also convey it to all of my friends," said Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas when he arrived at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, at around 13.09 WIB, confiscated by Antara.

Supratman said that one of the things that will be discussed is the mechanism for transferring prisoners and granting amnesty to several inmates by the President.

"The president wants to grant amnesty to several inmates for humanitarian reasons and also those who actually need rehabilitation," he said.

Andi said granting amnesty is the prerogative of the President, as regulated in the Basic Law.

However, he said, in its implementation, the President will ask for consideration from the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) regarding the granting of the amnesty.

"If the DPR states that there is a match between the opinion between the government, the President in this matter and the DPR, of course this will be carried out. But once again, we will only explain it to him today and the follow-up will be after there is a decision, I will convey it to my friends," said Supratman.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correction Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who also met the President, said that the meeting would discuss legal and immigration issues.

"There is also the National Police Chief, there is also the Attorney General, related to legal and immigration issues," said Yusril.

Apart from Supratman and Yusril, it was also seen that the Minister of Human Rights (HAM) Natalius Pigai was present.
