Recapitulation Of The Vote Of The Surabaya City Pilkada Postponed, East Java KPU Waits For Synchronization With Bawaslu

The East Java General Election Commission (KPU Jatim) has postponed the recapitulation of the results of the provincial-level vote count for the City of Surabaya in the 2024 Pilkada series. This postponement was carried out at the request of the East Java Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to synchronize further with the Surabaya City Bawaslu.

"Bawaslu East Java received reports of problems that need to be synchronized first. So, the recapitulation of votes for the city of Surabaya is temporarily held," said the chairman of the East Java KPU, Aang Kunaifi, as quoted from ANTARA, Monday 9 December.

In an open plenary meeting which was held from Sunday at 17.00 WIB until midnight, the East Java KPU had compiled votes for 16 of the 17 scheduled districts/cities. Only the city of Surabaya has not been recapitulated because of the delay. We do not yet know the details of the reported problems. Coordination with Bawaslu Surabaya City will be carried out so that the results of the recapitulation of votes will be free from obstacles," added Aang.

The provincial-level vote recapitulation process will continue on Monday (9/12) at 09.00 WIB, covering 22 regencies/cities. The East Java KPU targets that all recapitulations of a total of 38 regencies/cities can be completed according to the deadline stipulated in KPU Regulation Number 2 of 2024 concerning Pilkada Stages.

"We are optimistic that we can complete the entire recapitulation process today. After completion, the results of each pair of votes will be determined. Those who feel dissatisfied can file an objection before determining the candidate pair for the 2024 East Java Pilkada," explained Aang.

After all the recapitulation stages are completed, the East Java KPU will give the relevant parties time to submit objections, if any, before the final results of the 2024 Pilkada are determined.

With the temporary delay in the city of Surabaya, the East Java KPU hopes that all parties can receive the results of the recapitulation properly after the entire process runs according to the rules and coordination needed.
