Anies Baswedan Sends A Letter To The Central Government Asking For Regional Quarantine

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has sent a request for regional quarantine aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 in his area.

This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD. According to him, the letter dated March 28, 2020 was received on Sunday, March 29 yesterday.

"Yes, the letter number 143, dated March 28, 2020, was received on March 29, 2020 evening. It asks for consideration of the implementation of a regional quarantine," Mahfud told reporters via text message, Monday, March 30.

It is known, Jakarta is still the epicenter of the spread of the corona virus or COVID-19 in Indonesia. The number of positive patients in this province reaches 675 people and is number one. Meanwhile, in second place, West Java is a province with so many positive patients, namely 149 people.

DKI Jakarta also seems to have started preparing with a regional quarantine scenario to cut the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

This is because a telegram letter number STR / 414 / III / OPS.2. / 2020 is circulating, which instructs the Chief of Police in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya to engineer the closure of traffic flows to and from Jakarta during the regional quarantine period.

This telegram also explained that securing the closure of access to and from Jakarta would be carried out together with the TNI

Responding to the letter, the Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus said the telegram was intended to find out about the traffic jam situation in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya to facilitate the deployment of security personnel.

"Want to practice, so ask for data first. There is no such thing as an order to close. We want to know which routes each Polres takes," said Yusri when confirmed by reporters, Sunday, March 30.

He also emphasized that there has been no regional quarantine order from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Currently, the government is only appealing for the public to continue to carry out physical distancing or maintain a distance.

"Now the situation in Jakarta is still social distancing, physical distancing. There is no area quarantine or lockdown. But, we are still training," he concluded.
