Nadiem Believes That The Freedom Of Learning Movement Continues

JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Anwar Makarim believes the Merdeka Learning movement will continue even though the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Culture will change.

This was due to the spirit of 7,500 teachers who attended from various parts of Indonesia at the Peak of National Teacher's Day entitled Moving Together to Celebrate Freedom of Learning at the Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno Complex, Jakarta.

The presence of the mother and teacher today makes me even more confident that the Free Learning movement will have a long life. Will continue even though it has changed leadership. Is that right?," he said in Jakarta, Saturday.

Nadiem said the implementation of the Independent Learning policy which President Joko Widodo continues to push has now become a positive movement in every region in Indonesia.

According to him, teachers throughout Indonesia will not stop the Free Learning movement because it has made various positive achievements and impacts on the world of education for four years.

He explained that Merdeka Learning's policy through the Independent Curriculum was able to give teachers the freedom to innovate in creating learning in class.

Prior to the Independent Curriculum, teachers were not given the opportunity to innovate because they were pursuing learning targets that had been set on the curriculum.

"I'm sure teachers throughout Indonesia don't want to reverse the direction of the ship that we've been struggling to move together for the last four years," he said.

So far, 80 percent of education units in Indonesia have used the Merdeka Curriculum and will continue to be encouraged so that all education units can implement the curriculum.

"Teachers must determine if the child is at what level of competence, teachers who must be given the freedom to become co-creators from the curriculum, teachers who must be given the freedom to go forward or resign after the ability of their respective students," he said.
