KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri Becomes SYL Extortion Suspect, Metro Police: Sufficient Evidence

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police has completed carrying out a case regarding alleged extortion or receipt of gratuities from the former Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo. As a result, the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri was officially named a suspect.

"A case has been carried out with the result that sufficient evidence was found to name FB as chairman of the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Committee as a suspect," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak, to journalists, Wednesday, November 22, evening.

Some of the evidence that is the basis for determining a suspect includes witness statements and electronic evidence.

Meanwhile, 91 witnesses have been questioned. They include Syahrul Yasin Limpo, former aide to Firli Bahuri, Kevin Egananta. Then there is Semarang Police Chief Commissioner Irwan Anwar, Director of the KPK Dumas Tomi Murtomo, as well as two former KPK leaders Saut Situmorang and M Jasin.

Meanwhile, there are around 8 experts consisting of experts in criminal law, micro expression and procedural law.

The series of cases of alleged extortion or receiving gratification by the KPK leadership against Syahrul Yasin Limpo began when Metro Jaya Police received a public order on August 12 2023.

With this complaint, the Tipidkor Sub-Directorate, Ditreskrimsus Metro Jaya Police collected information on the basis of an order for the collection of information material (pulbaket) which was issued on Tuesday, August 15 2023.

Not long after, investigators issued an investigation warrant on August 21. At this stage, a number of witnesses were examined, one of which was SYL.

Then, after the series of investigations have been completed, investigators carry out a case title. As a result, criminal elements were discovered so the status of the case was upgraded to the investigation stage.
