Despite Differences In View, The MiKTA Parliament Agrees To Encourage Peace In Palestine

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, stated that the 9th Mikta Speaker's Consultation agreed to encourage peace in Palestine despite differences of opinion from the parliament of the MIKTA countries. This was agreed upon after the chairman of the parliament for MIKTA members held a discussion.

"We all believe that differences between countries must be resolved at the negotiating table and not on an open conflict field, through diplomacy and not with violence. We believe in the power of dialogue," said Puan.

This was conveyed by Puan when closing the 9th Mikta Speaker's Consultation, at the Bali Ballroom Hotel Kempinski, Jakarta, Monday, November 20. Puan herself led three discussion sessions in the consulting forum of the 5 middle power countries where the DPR acted as the host.

MIKTA is a group of middle power countries consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia. Meanwhile, MIKTA Speaker's Consultation is a consulting forum for the chairman of the parliament for MIKTA members.

After conducting three discussion sessions with different discussions, the MIKTA state parliament resulted in an agreement with the chairman of the parliament Chairs Statement regarding attitudes on various global issues.

In addition to the agreement to encourage the creation of peace in Palestine and Ukraine, the Chairs Statement also approved other peace actions that had a negative impact on the world community. One of them is related to peace for countries that are in conflict, such as Israel-Palestinian and Russia-Ukraine.

The following is a joint statement from Mikta Speaker's Consultation regarding the issue of global peace:

We recognize that the world continues to experience major turmoil that affects global peace, security and stability. We also recognize that existing multilateral systems must do more in overcoming this issue, including: a humanitarian catastrophe in the Palestinian Population, a war in Ukraine, a situation in Myanmar and a security threat on the Korean Peninsula, including the nuclear threat posed by the Democratic Party. The People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). We also reaffirm the importance of maintaining peace, security, stability and freedom of navigation and aviation in the South China Sea and East China Sea, in accordance with international law, including UNCLOS 1982.

Before closing the consular forum, Puan said that the Mikta Speakers Consultation was a platform to facilitate dialogue and build bridges and seek common views, not widen differences.

"MIKTA has both committed to always pushing for peace, not only in Palestine but also in Ukraine," explained the first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

After closing the 9th Mikta Speakers Consultation series, Puan then invited MP MIKTA tour building at the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta. He invited South Korea's National Assembly Chair Kim-Jin Pyo, Turkey's Grand National Assembly Chair Numan Kurtulmu

While looking at the Plenary Session Room at Nusantara I Building, Puan talked about the history of the building which is also known as the Kura-kura Building. Puan and the delegation of the head of the MIKTA state parliament also held a joint photo session at the Nusantara Building, which is the main building of the Indonesian Parliament Complex in the form of the Garuda bird wing containing 1,700 seats.
