MALANG - Member of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of Universitas Brawijaya Mahfud MD held discussions with relevant stakeholders to develop the university to be better known in the world.

Mahfud, who is also the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menkopolhukam), in Malang City, East Java, Saturday said that in the meeting only about ten people were held and there was no political-related agenda.

"I came here only to have meetings with ten people, not political visits, not talking about politics at all. We are talking about developing Universitas Brawijaya to make it more global," said Mahfud.

Mahfud explained, currently Universitas Brawijaya has become known by the world as one of the universities chosen to gain knowledge.

However, he hopes that in the coming years, Universitas Brawijaya can further expand its scope.

"Now it's worldwide, but next year it can expand its reach even more," Mahfud said as quoted by Antara, Saturday, November 4.

On that occasion, the Chancellor of Universitas Brawijaya, Prof. Widodo, added that one of the things discussed in the meeting was related to the work plan of Universitas Brawijaya, especially for rectors.

One of the discussions at the meeting, he continued, was related to the Brawijaya University Globalizing program. The program is expected to make Universitas Brawijaya better known in the international world.

"We hope that by doing Globalizing UB, universities can be increasingly recognized in the international arena, something like that," he said.

Regarding Mahfud MD, who is a member of the UB MWA, but also one of the prospective vice presidential candidates in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu), Widodo said that the university remains neutral and does not support certain pairs of candidates.

"Brawijaya University also maintains its position, we do not support one of the candidates, but we are neutral as a world of universities, here lecturers must also be neutral. He (Mahfud) is also a long MWA and no provisions have been violated," he said.
