Mount Merbabu Fire Extinguished Due To Rainfall

The fire that hit the forest area of Mount Merbabu in Central Java was declared extinguished after heavy rains that flushed the area on Sunday (29/10) night.

"Sunday night it rained heavily, extinguishing fires in the Mount Merbabu area," said Head of the Prevention and Preparedness Section of the Semarang Regency BPBD Mediarso Tri Soelistyo as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 30.

From the sweeping carried out by officers, according to him, no hotspots were found.

Residents from two hamlets in Getasan District, Semarang Regency who had been evacuated, he continued, had been allowed to go home.

"We will take the refugees back to their respective homes," he said.

Previously, the fire in the Mount Merbabu forest area was first reported on Friday (27/10) in Sokowolu Village, Semarang Regency.

The Gunung Merbabu National Park Office noted that the burned area reached 848.5 hectares.

The burned forest areas cover the districts of Semarang, Boyolali, and Magelang.
