Not Resigning From The Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs, Mahfud MD: There Will Be No Conflict Of Interest

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD claims that he will not use a conflict of interest in his position after being appointed as a vice presidential candidate from Ganjar Pranowo.

This was emphasized by Mahfud who decided not to resign from his position as minister of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.

"There will be no conflict of interest (conflict of interest) regarding me," said Mahfud at the Kemenkopolhukam office, Wednesday, October 18.

Mahfud emphasized that he would still monitor the neutrality of agencies that were under his coordination during the general election even though he was one of the candidates participating in the 2024 presidential election.

"I will actually supervise the TNI, Polri and bureaucratic apparatus. It is forbidden to take sides. Everything must be neutral," he said.

"And I, as a candidate, will set an example that I lead the neutrality of the TNI, Polri, and bureaucracy, and will also reprimand anyone who uses the apparatus, bureaucracy, TNI, Polri not to be neutral in elections," he continued.

Today, PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri officially announced Mahfud MD as the vice presidential candidate to accompany Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election.

"Bismillahirrohmanirrohim, then the vice presidential candidate chosen by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle who will accompany Mr. Ganjar Pranowo is Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD," said Megawati at the PDIP DPP Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 18.

Megawati said Mahfud's election as a vice presidential candidate had gone through various contemplations and dialogue of the mind.

In addition, Megawati had also heard the thoughts of various parties before choosing Mahfud. Among them, from the general chairman of the party supporting Ganjar to the figures.

Megawati said Mahfud was not a foreign figure because both of them had served in the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP).

"He was once a member of the Board of Trustees at the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency. So I can really understand from his way of thinking, his way of thinking," said Megawati at the PDIP DPP Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 18.

In addition, Mahfud is also called an intelligent figure by Megawati. "I pay attention to his knowledge in legal matters that are suitable, very full of experience and knowledge," said the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Then Megawati considered Mahfud the right person because he had complete experience in the fields of executive, judicial, and legislative.

"Then, Prof. Mahfud is also known by the people as a defender and defender of wong cilik," he said.

Megawati believes Mahfud can complete Ganjar Pranowo. Both are expected to be elected by the people to continue the leadership of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"That the people can participate in making these two of them to become leaders of the country and nation in the future," he said.
