JAKARTA - The coalition of political parties that will carry the presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo will register his presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs with the KPU on the first day of the opening tomorrow, Thursday, October 19, 2023.

"The plan is to register the presidential and vice-presidential candidates. But details will certainly be delivered after this morning's announcement by the general chairmen," said Chairman of the PPP Advisory Council Romahurmuziy in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 19.

The man who is familiarly called Romy emphasized that this would be conveyed directly by the general chairmen who brought Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election. The chairmans are PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri, Plt Chairman of the PPP DPP Mardiono, General Chairperson of the Hanura Party DPP Oesman Sapta Odang, and Perindo Party Chair Hari Tanoesoedibjo.

To note, today Megawati Soekarnoputri will announce the figure of the vice presidential candidate who will accompany Ganjar Pranowo.

This has been confirmed by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto at Megawati's residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng area, Central Jakarta, Tuesday night.

"Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri has assigned the PDIP DPP to coordinate with the TPN GP, so that tomorrow at 10:00 WIB the vice presidential candidate will be announced who will accompany Mr. Ganjar Pranowo," said Hasto.

He said the decision was taken after the PDIP leadership reported to Megawati regarding the latest political dynamics, especially after the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates to be 40 years old or have experience as regional heads.

Hasto said that after seeing the dynamics of national politics, it was decided that the announcement of Ganjar's companion vice presidential candidate would be announced on Wednesday.

"Earlier I reported to Mrs. Megawati accompanied by Mr. Olly Dondokambey and Mr. Prananda Prabowo, because Mba Puan (Maharani) had just returned from her foreign assignment," he said.

Regarding the initials "M" which is rumored to be the vice presidential candidate accompanying Ganjar, Hasto said that the candidate who was decided was a figure for the Indonesian people and joint progress.

Based on the schedule set by the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia, the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to start from October 19 to November 25, 2023.

As regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total number of seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. In addition, candidate pairs can also be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
