Sharjah UAE Police Will Have An Electric Motorcycle For Traffic Police: Equipped With Radar To Cameras

JAKARTA - The Sharjah Police, United Arab Emirates (UAE) will have an additional fleet of environmentally friendly operational vehicles, on smart electric motorcycles.

The electric motorbike is made domestically by the UAE, made by Sulmi, which was developed by its founder, Rashid Al Salmi.

This announcement was made on the sidelines of Sharjah's seventh Economic Sustainability Forum at Sharjah Police Headquarters earlier this month.

The police said the move was part of a broader strategy to shift to sustainability in various aspects of law enforcement.

This smart motorcycle is designed in 2021, with the aim of reducing emissions and advancing sustainability in the emirate.

It said it would take about two years to build the smart bike before the prototype was launched this year.

The electric motorcycle can cover a distance of up to 300 kilometers with one charge for 30 minutes, and is capable of reaching a speed of 155 kilometers/hour.

"We are a team of five people, including four Emiratis and one Lebanese, which includes specializations such as machine and design engineering," Rashid said.

"Every part of this motorbike, including the battery, is made by our hands in the UAE," he said.

This electric motor prototype will be equipped with features aimed at improving road safety, including a radar system warning motorists about blind spots and four cameras.

"The work is still ongoing for a refinement version specifically designed for the police, equipped to carry out all traffic-related tasks," added Rashid.

Last month, this smart electric motor received the green light from the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.

Talks are still ongoing regarding the number of bicycles needed for the Sharjah police.

Rashid added that one unit of the smart electric motor costs around 12,000 UAE dirhams. However, it will save fuel costs of 25,000 UAE dirhams per year.

"Three shipping companies from Canada, Germany and Sweden have expressed their intention to invest in this Emirati innovation, underscoring its global appeal," said Rashid.
