PAPUA - Police officers from the Jayapura Marine Port Area (KPL), Papua, thwarted the smuggling of seven Cenderawasih birds to be sent outside Papua using the Sinabung Motorboat.
The seven living Cenderawasih birds were found in a suitcase stored in the Dek 3 bathroom in the middle of KM Sinabung which docked at Jayapura Harbor, last Thursday night.

The police chief added that from the same ship, his members also thwarted the smuggling of marijuana-type narcotics carried by a man with the initials AT (18) while boarding KM Sinabung via the land ladder of Dek 4.
Initially, the police were suspicious of the perpetrator's movements and searched the bag he was carrying. The police found a pack of babypers which turned out to contain 16 packages of marijuana of various sizes. The marijuana is thought to be brought to Serui.
"The suspect AT and evidence have been handed over to the Jayapura City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit for further processing," said Riskard.
