JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo ordered the National Police Headquarters to deploy an assistance team in handling the alleged extortion case carried out by the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against former Agriculture Minister (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo or SYL.

The alleged extortion case is currently being handled by the Directorate of Special Crimes at the Polda Metro Jaya. The assistance team will later be involved and oversee the entire investigation process.

"I asked the team from Headquarters to come down to support them," Sigit told reporters, Saturday, October 7.

The purpose of deploying an assistance team is to be more careful in handling the alleged extortion carried out by the KPK leadership.

Sigit invites if there are institutions that wish to be involved in supervising the handling of the case.

"So that the handling process is careful because we don't want the Police to be unprofessional," he said.

"Then the process can really provide a sense of justice," continued Sigit.

In addition, the former Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police also advised investigators not to rashly make decisions in handling the alleged extortion case. This is because this case involves parties known to the public.

"Of course we advise members, because this concerns reports reported by people who are known to the public. Then also regarding institutions that are also known to the public, the handling must be careful, must be careful," said Sigit.

Previously reported, Polda Metro Jaya raised the status of the alleged extortion case committed by officials of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to the investigation stage. The decision was based on the results of the case title.

Dengan peningkatan status itu ke penyidikan, artinya pihak kepolisian menyakini terjadinya dugaan pemerasan dalam penanganan kasus tindak pidana korupsi.

"From the results of the implementation of the case title, it is then recommended to increase the status of the investigation to the investigation stage of alleged corruption in the form of extortion," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak.
