Rongsok Warehouse Fire At Kliwon Market Solo Spreads To Residents' Houses

The fire that occurred in the rongsok warehouse in Pasar Kliwon District, Solo, Central Java, has spread to residents' homes.

Surakarta Police Chief Kombes Iwan Saktiadi said the warehouse for used goods or hangouts located in Joyosudir Village contained various flammable items.

"There are wood, iron, plastic, pieces of building materials. This warehouse belongs to Mr. Agus Sumadyo," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 3.

He said the fire in this densely populated area was first discovered at 17.10 WIB. At that time, the employees who used to work in the warehouse began to leave the place to go home.

"Then when the last worker left the place, residents informed him that there was smoke inside, the worker came back in and found a hotspot. At that time the workers tried to extinguish it but could not afford it," he said.

Furthermore, the incident was reported to the Kliwon Market Police, which was then followed up in coordination with the Fire Department.

"In addition to Solo, we also received assistance from around Solo. There are already ten units (damkar car, ed.). There is also a water canon from the police," he said.

The police chief confirmed that there were no casualties from the incident. However, a number of local residents have fled.

"Alhamdulillah, there were no casualties, we deployed Babinkamtibmas. The residents (live around, Red.) on the barrier wall have left the place. The electricity has been turned off to anticipate things that are not desirable," he said.

It was recorded that three houses were damaged due to fire from the warehouse.
