Ministry Of PPPA: Mega Suryani's Domestic Violence Report Handling Stopped Because It Was Revoked

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection said that the process of handling domestic violence reports (KDRT) made by Mega Suryani Dewi to the police was stopped, because the report had been withdrawn by Mega.

"The wife who died had reported the act of domestic violence to the police in August (2023), but the process was stopped, because the report had been withdrawn by the person concerned on the grounds of children," said Assistant Deputy for the Protection of Women's Rights at Home and Vulnerables at the Ministry of PPPA Eni Widiyanti, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, September 14.

Mega Suryani Dewi is the wife who was the victim of a murder by her own husband, Nando (25) in West Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java.

Eni Widiyanti said that the withdrawal of reports by domestic violence victims was often an obstacle to the case being processed further.

This is because Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence regulates that acts of physical, psychological, and sexual violence are offenses of complaint.

"So when the victim withdrew his report, the case stopped, it was not processed further." said Eni Widiyanti.

Previously, a husband with the initials N (25) had the heart to kill his wife, M (24), at their rented house in West Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java.

Tragically, the murder was allegedly witnessed by their two children who were still toddlers.

The murder, which occurred on Thursday (7/9) that night, allegedly started with an argument between the perpetrator and the victim about the economy.

After killing his wife, Nando then entrusted his two children to his mother-in-law. Then Nando went to his parents' house, and surrendered himself to the West Cikarang Police.

This murder incident was only discovered when the victim's mother came to the rented house on Saturday (9/9) in the morning and saw her child lying on the bed lifeless.

Prior to the murder, the wife had reported her husband to the Bekasi Metro Police in early August 2023 on charges of committing domestic violence. However, the alleged case of domestic violence was stopped.
