NGAWI - Perum Perhutani Forest Transport Unit (KPH) Lawu Ds noted that 8 hectares of forest on the slopes of Mount Lawu had been burned for the past few days. The fire was successfully extinguished by joint officers.

KPH Lawu Ds administrator Agus Ahmad Fadholi said the forest that caught fire was a protected forest with mixed forest plant species in plots 33 and 39.

"The location is at the Manyul Forest Transport Resort (RPH), the North Lawu Forest Transport Unit (BKPH), KPH Lawu Ds, to be precise entering Girimulyo Village, Jogorogo District, Ngawi Regency, East Java," Agus said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 8.

According to him, according to the report from officers in the field, the hotspots were observed on Monday, September 4 at around 11.00 WIB. The fire continued to spread due to dry land conditions and strong winds.

"Medan is difficult to make joint officers from Perhutani, police, TNI, volunteers from the Forest Community Institution (LMDH), and local residents try hard enough so that the fire can be extinguished and make an image," he said.

After various efforts and hard work, the fire was successfully extinguished. Even though it has been extinguished, officers continue to monitor because it enters the peak of the dry season, the forest area on the slopes of Mount Lawu is very prone to fire," he added.

His party cooperates with local governments through BPBD as well as the TNI and Polri to continue to monitor and socialize to residents to prevent forest fires and forest edges.

He asked LMDH members or residents who are active in forest areas not to set fire or make the slightest fire that could cause forest fires.

"The Lawu Ds KPH team is also more intensive in conducting routine patrols. This is to anticipate disturbances in forest and land fires," he said.

"During patrols, usually the team also makes alignments and barriers. So, if it is known that there are hotspots, they can be extinguished immediately and do not spread to areas or other forest plots," he said.

Forest fires on the slopes of Mount Lawu occur every year for the last five years but do not spread to hundreds of hectares. The cause is natural factors and human negligence.

The largest forest fires on Mount Lawu occurred in 2015. The disaster killed nine climbers who were trapped in the fire while climbing.
