Jakarta Is Inundated Again, Anies Is Urged Not To Just Think Of Beautification

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is in the spotlight on social media, especially Twitter. This happened after Anies showed off his new face in Jakarta, but it turned out that after heavy rain from Saturday, February 22 to early Sunday, February 23 morning, a number of areas of the capital city were actually inundated by floods.

Through his Twitter account @aniesbaswedan, the former Minister of Education and Culture in the era of President Joko Widodo said that there is blue in the Jakarta sky which indicates there is no air pollution like some time ago which made the sky appear gray.

He also asked the people of Jakarta to walk and cycle to enjoy the new face of the area he leads. There are four photos uploaded by Anies along with that status, this photo has also received excessive editing so that the color that appears is not the original color.

However, it turns out that the face of New Jakarta has changed with the grim Jakarta due to flooding in several areas. In fact, this flood inundated the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) and made several medical devices there such as CT scans and MRI devices that they owned were flooded.

Apart from the RSCM which was inundated by floods, quoted from the official Twitter account of the Commuter Line @CommuterLine, due to the floods that inundated Sudirman and Kemayoran Stations, the Bogor and Depok routes have changed.

Reflecting on this, Anies seems to have to reduce his image if Jakarta now has a new face through his social media accounts. Moreover, the problem faced by Jakarta is still the same, namely flooding.

Because, according to urban planning observer Yayat Supriatna, Governor Anies should not only focus on polishing the beauty of the area he leads or limited to beautification. He assessed that Anies was only doing beautification without thinking about solving the substance of the flood problem that the community is waiting for.

"Don't just focus on beautification. Beautiful polishes. I mean, beautification is just beautification, but what is the substance of the problem," said Yayat when we contacted him by telephone.

He said, Jakarta needs readiness to handle floods considering that this disaster is prone to occur. Yayat also touched on the discourse of installing TOA for early detection of disasters. According to him, instead of building the TOA system, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government should build something more useful to deal with these seasonal disasters.

In addition, Yayat also considered that Anies did not need to show off or use social media to show his self-image and achievements. Remember, what is shown on social media should be in line with what is happening in the real world or in the field.

"If you want to be good, for example, Jakarta Baru, in that context it should be neutralized. What is being said is that I can solve problems faced by residents including floods," said Yayat.

"So in my opinion, if, for example, something you want to convey to the public, at least it shows something with a big problem level, it can be reduced. Not showing something that doesn't need to be done is also good," Yayat added.
