The Sadang Serang Market Traders Association revealed losses due to the fire at Sadang Serang Market, Bandung City, West Java, last Friday (4/8) last week, reaching billions of rupiah.

Chairman of the Sadang Market Traders Association Serang Aris Hermansyah estimates the loss from the fire that scorched 170 kiosks, with an average loss per kiosk of around Rp. 80 million-Rp. 200 million.

"The loss per kiosk is an average of Rp. 80 million-Rp. 200 million. Now there are 170 stalls on fire. Maybe the total loss is around Rp. 1.7 billion," said Aris, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 7.

Currently, traders hope to return to trading soon, so that they are ready to collaborate with Perumda Pasar Champion in the hope that the rebuilding process can be in accordance with security procedures and comfort in selling.

"We are ready to collaborate again with PD Pasar. We are even ready to independently spend the costs in the development, although for example there are subsidies funds obtained," he said.

Aris said that when the fire broke out, the traders had closed their stalls. At that time, there were plastic kiosk employees at the market who tried to enter to extinguish the fire with simple equipment.

"Then the plastic kiosk employees tried to get into the bucket to extinguish it, they saw an eruption from the electricity. Only the electrical incident was after the puff of smoke and fire," he said.

The beginning of the fire, said Aris, could not be ascertained, but from the information he received, smoke and fire were in the middle which continued to the end of the market.

"It doesn't know where (the beginning of the fire was), its position from the middle to the end of the market. It's not certain where the fire started," he said.

Sadang Serang Market caught fire on Friday (4/8) night. According to information gathered, the fire allegedly started at around 18.20 WIB, and reports were received by PB officials at around 18.45 WIB.

The Bandung City Fire and Disaster Management Service (Diskar PB) deployed around 20 fire engines to the scene.
