JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo promised that the selection process for governors of various regions in Indonesia would be transparent.

"What is not accountable? What is not transparent? The input is 'Wong' from below, right from the regions," said President Joko Widodo at the Parungkuda toll gate, Sukabumi, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 4.

It is known that the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) is still waiting for the proposed name of an official to serve as acting regional head in 85 regions whose regional head-deputy term ends in September 2023.

Among the governors, some of them are West Java, Central Java, North Sumatra, Bali, and South Sulawesi.

"From the regions, right, the Ministry of Home Affairs continues to move up to us, (to) the TPA (End Appraisal Team). Everything is open," added the President.

For the governor's official position, the provincial DPRD originally submitted three names, then the Minister of Home Affairs also proposed three names.

Specifically for the acting Governor of West Java, the West Java DPRD has determined the three names that will be proposed.

The three names are the Director General of Legislation of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights who was also the Head of the West Java High Prosecutor's Office Asep Mulyana, professor of Padjadjaran University (Unpad) Prof. Keri Lestari and finally Bey ticketi Machmudin who currently serves as Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat.

"It hasn't reached me yet, yes, it's already there (from the DPRD), but it hasn't reached me yet. I don't know the names yet, what is clear is that there are three, from the DRPD from below, there are three," said President Jokowi, smiling, brandishing three fingers.

Referring to the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 4 of 2023 concerning Acting Governors, Regents, and Mayors, six names were then discussed by the Minister of Home Affairs to be narrowed to three names.

After it was decided three names, the names were handed over to the President through the Minister of State Secretary as consideration for the President. The appointment of the Acting Governor will be determined by a presidential decision.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has said that most likely by the middle or late August there will be a decision regarding the Acting Governor for regions whose terms of office of governor and deputy governor end in September.

A total of 272 regions whose head/deputy regional heads end in 2022 and 2023. To fill their positions, the regional head is appointed before the simultaneous regional head elections (pilkada) is held nationally in 2024.
