JAKARTA - The attorney for PT Bali Towerindo Sentra, Maqdir Ismail, opened his voice regarding the case of a student named Sultan Rif'at Alfatih (20) who was caught in an optical fiber cable belonging to his client.

Maqdir admitted that Bali Tower did not initially know that the Sultan was caught in an optical fiber cable at the time of the incident. He said he only found out that there was a problem with cable damage on January 6.

At that time, a network customer served by Bali Tower complained that his internet service was dead, so the company immediately checked the location and repaired the cable.

"Repairs on Thursday January 6 by Bali Tower because there is information that the internet is off and the relevant parties around internet users cannot be interneted, then it will be repaired immediately," said Maqdir at a press conference in the Central Jakarta area, Thursday, August 3.

When Bali Tower headed to the location, the cable was curved with a high slope. Trying to find information from the surrounding community, Bali Tower received information that an accident had occurred caused by the cable.

However, Bali Tower did not trace who the accident victim was. Until finally, the company was visited by the East Cilandak Village for clarification, after a report from the Sultan's family.

"There is information on the accident but it is not known what the accident was. Our party only found out about the victim after 5 months later, on May 23, 2023, this was because there was an accident which was said to be due to an optical fiber cable that had crossed the Antasari (Jalan). Cilandak District Call Bali Tower. We just found out that there was a victim named Sultan," explained Maqdir.

After that, Bali Tower held a meeting with the Sultan's family. They discussed the company's responsibility. However, the discussion was deadlocked due to disagreements in the cost of compensation.

As previously reported, a teenager named Sultan Rif'at Alfatih experienced a bitter incident. The Brawijaya University student was unable to speak for almost seven months due to his neck being entangled in an optical fiber cable.

Sultan's father, Fatih, said the incident occurred on Jalan Pangeran Antasari, South Jakarta on January 5, 2023, at 22.00 WIB.

The incident started when the child was spending semester holidays with his high school friends around the capital. They went by two-wheeled driving towards Jalan TB Simatupang and then turned left on Jalan Pangeran Antasari.

After walking along Jalan Pangeran Antasari for one kilometer, suddenly there was an SUV that stopped in front of the victim's motorbike. Because there is an optical fiber cable that crosses the road.

The SUV driver who moved slowly to pass the cable that was stretched was thought to have miscalculated. He allegedly did not realize the cable was stuck on the roof of the car.

"Because the fiber optic cable is made of steel fiber, the cable doesn't break when you are interested in a few meters. The cable turns to the back and stabs my child's neck. Immediately, my child immediately fell due to a cable trap," Fatih told reporters, Saturday, July 29.

The victim, who was unconscious, was immediately taken by his friends and a number of road users to the Fatmawati Central General Hospital (RSUP), to get first aid.

"(The doctor) sentenced my son that his throat or young bones in his throat broke and fell apart from what was called the offline or like the jakun was released," explained Fatih.

"Even couldn't speak for almost seven months as a result of the incident," he said.
