Courier 5 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine Sued 16 Years In Prison At Medan District Court

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office has charged the defendant Thomson Jumadi Aruan from Tanjung Balai for 16 years in prison in a five kilogram case of methamphetamine.

"Asking the panel of judges to sentence them to 16 years in prison, a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to three months in prison," said JPUMaria Fr.Br. Tarigan at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 1.

The prosecutor assessed that the defendant Thomson Jumadi Aruan violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics as the primary indictment, namely without rights or against the law offering to sell, sell, buy, accept, become intermediaries in buying and selling, exchange and handing over class I narcotics in the form of five kilograms of methamphetamine.

"The aggravating thing is that the defendant does not support the government's program in eradicating drugs, while the mitigating factors for the defendant have never been convicted, admitted, and regretted his actions," said Maria.

After reading the charges, the panel of judges chaired by Mohammad Yusafrihardi Girsang postponed the trial next week with the agenda of reading the defendant's defense (pledoi).

In the indictment, Maria Fr.Br.Tariangan said Aritinang contacted the defendant to meet to receive five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine to be brought to Medan City.

"Then the defendant contacted the person who was going to hand over the methamphetamine (from Aritonang) in a backpack in Tanjung Balai City," he said.

Furthermore, the defendant took a bus to Medan City. While on SM Raja Street, Medan, the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate who previously received information about the circulation of methamphetamine from Tanjung Balai to the capital city of North Sumatra.

Then the police officers searched the defendant's belongings on the bus, obtained a backpack containing methamphetamine weighing five kilograms which the defendant admitted came from Aritonang.
