Provincial Government Records 80 Thousand Residents In Jakarta Infected With HIV

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government noted that nearly 80 thousand residents in Jakarta were infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) case. This was revealed from data from the DKI Jakarta Province AIDS Management Commission until March 2023.

Head of the Sub-Coordinator of the Health Section of the Social Welfare Bureau of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretariat, Mariana, said that 95 percent of those with HIV had received anti-corruption therapy (ARV) treatment with drugs.

"A total of 72,442 have received ARV treatment. The target has reached 95 percent," Mariana said in her statement, Monday, July 24.

However, only 51 percent or 33,590 people who were diagnosed positive for HIV/AIDS were still regularly taking ARV drugs.

So far, the DKI Jakarta Health Office has conducted HIV tests on 428,508 people. This is implemented through the acceleration of HIV-AIDS prevention to realize AIDS-Free Jakarta by 2030.

The HIV/AIDS examination, continued Mariana, was also carried out on 237 pregnant women. The examination was carried out to ensure that the child in the womb was not exposed to HIV or AIDS.

"There are 180 out of 237 pregnant women who have routinely undergone ARV treatment and nine babies who were born exposed to HIV," said Mariana.

Furthermore, Mariana hopes that the public will not discriminate against adults or children exposed to HIV in Jakarta.

"It is necessary to support children's issues that live with HIV, so that they don't get discriminated against," he added.
