1,232 Remote And Outermost Residents In North Sumatra Finally Enjoy Electricity

A total of 1,232 villagers in the 3T Region (frontier, outermost and underdeveloped) in North Sumatra Province have enjoyed PLN electricity in 2023. "PLN North Sumatra's Main Distribution Unit (UID) has again succeeded in electrifying 1,253 customers during the first semester of 2023," said General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra, Awaluddin Hafid, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 21.Awaluddin mentions that electricity is an important need for the community. PLN continues to be committed to electrifying the community to remote areas. "PLN continues to accelerate village electricity programs so that villages in the 3T Region enjoy electricity in North Sumatra in 2023," he said. He said, as many as 50 old/new villages and new/old hamlets had been electrified in the first semester of 2023. Until June 2023, the realization of North Sumatra's electrification ratio reached 99.80 percent while the ratio of electrified villages reached 99.02 percent. In the first semester of 2023, many village electricity developments in the Nias islands were entitled to build and electrify the 3T area in realizing the bright North Nias and Nias Districts. However there was also the construction of village electricity in other districts. "It is noted that PLN managed to build a Medium Voltage Network along 62.49 kilometers (kms), a Low Voltivity Network along 58,355 kilometers circuit (kms), a distribution substation with a total capacity of 1,750 kilo Volt Ampere (kVA)," he said.

General Manager added that PLN will continue to increase the electrification ratio in North Sumatra so that the presence of electricity in 3T villages can boost individual and regional economic growth. Even though PLN has challenges in the form of access to isolated areas, PLN is optimistic that it will be able to build and electrify 3T villages in 2023.
