Anar Tiur Samosir Grandma 71 Years Old Mount Rinjani Climbers Achieve MURI Record

Anar Tiur Samosir, 71-year-old grandmother from Bekasi, West Java who managed to reach the top of Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), won an Award Charter from the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI).

Liebe Goklas, son of Anar Tiur Samosir, said that the MURI award was given for the record as the Oldest Woman who climbs the peak of Mount Rinjani which has a height of 3,726 meters above sea level (masl).

"The award from MURI was based on the certificate of appreciation Number 11060/R.MURI/VII/2023 on July 13, 2023 which was immediately submitted by Prof. Dr. (HC) KP Jaya Suprana," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 13.

Previously, Anar Tiur Samosir, a 71-year-old grandmother from Bekasi, West Java, managed to reach the peak of Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), which has a height of 3,726 meters above sea level (masl).

"I arrived at the peak at around 14.00 WITA after starting the journey from the last base camp in Pelawan at 03.30 WITA on June 20, 2023," he said.

Elderly climbers (elderly) can reach the top of Mount Rinjani, it can be said to be quite extraordinary, considering that the trip took four days and three nights from June 18 to June 21, 2023. The terrain that was traversed itself was quite extreme from deserts or savannas, forests, and the contours of quite steep footpaths.

He said that the process of going to the summit was the hardest felt because it had to cross the sand in the hot sun and strong winds. "When it was at the top, only my group. Other climbers have dropped," said the graduate of the Dutch Literature Bachelor, University of Indonesia (UI) and the Master of Antropology.

Normally, climbers of Mount Rinjani came down from the summit at around 10:00 WITA after starting the climb from the last base camp in Pegangangan at 04.00 WITA.

Another heaviest experience, he said, was when he got off from Pelawangan to Sajang, Sembalun. "I started walking from 10.00 WITA and only arrived in Sajang at 18.00 WITA," he said.

"The extraordinary experience of climbing the top of Mount Rinjani. It's nothing, other people are going down from the top, I'm still trying to get to the top," he said.

However, the retired state civil servant (ASN) has been preparing for two months to climb Mount Rinjani along with his two sons, son-in-law, and two grandchildren, since two months ago.

"I have prepared by going up and down the stairs in the attic of the house, while two hands carried a barbell since two months ago, and supported by routine yoga exercises," he said.

Anar Tiur Samosir started the climb from Sajang, Sembalun, on Sunday (18/6) at 10.00 WITA and arrived at the last base camp, Pelawangan Sembalun, at around 20.00 WITA.

"It's amazing, my mother's physical condition can penetrate the top of Mount Rinjani," said Liebe Goklas.
