SUKABUMI - The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, examined the perpetrators of felling trees on land owned by the Regency Government. The land is located in the Palabuhanratudi area behind the Sukabumi Regency DPRD building.

"We have summoned the tree developer. We give a strong warning to those concerned not to do their actions again," said Sukabumi Regency Satpol PP Secretary Syarifudin as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 4.

According to Syarifudin, the examination was carried out after receiving reports from the public about the felling of trees on land owned by the Sukabumi Regency Government on Monday (3/7).

Officers who were sent to the location received evidence in the form of dozens of logs from the tree that had just been cut down.

After being traced, it was discovered that tree cutting was a local resident who claimed the trees belonged to him, which was planted in 1996-1997 and has not received compensation from the local government.

During the examination, the Satpol PP coordinated with the Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) of Sukabumi Regency to ask for clarity on regulations regarding local government assets.

"What this logger did was wrong for cutting down trees illegally on the grounds that he planted the tree decades ago. Therefore, we gave a strong warning. If we are still determined to take similar actions, then we will not hesitate (so that he) is punished," said Syarifudin.

He added that dozens of tree trunks were confiscated and taken to the Sukabumi Regency Satpol PP Headquarters.
