7-year-old Boy In South Central Timor NTT Dies After Being Bitten By Anjng Rabies

The Health Office of South Central Timor Regency (TTS) East Nusa Tenggara reported that a seven-year-old boy died from a rabies dog bite after being treated intensively at the Soe Hospital.

"The child died at 01.00 WITA in the early hours of Thursday (29/6)," said the Head of the TTS Ria Year Service, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 30.

He explained that the seven-year-old boy came from Nunukhiti Village, Fautmolo District, South Central TImor Regency.

The victim was found to have been bitten by a dog on April 20, 2023, to be precise in his left calf while playing with his friends.

"There were eight bites on his feet and hands when he was bitten by the dog who was the rabies dog," he added.

The dog was based on the story of the victim's parents, he said, was known to have chased the victim and immediately bitten the victim, so that the wound was deep enough for both the legs and fingers.

The victim was then treated by his grandmother by simply compressing warm water and also applied coconut oil. However, the child actually had a fever for two days.

The victim's parents did not take the child to a health facility but instead left it alone, because they felt the dog's bite was normal.

However, after the first rabies case emerged in Fenun last May, his party only began to realize that their child was bitten by a rabies dog.

In addition, the child has another fever, then the pain when swallowing so that on June 23, the victim was taken by her parents to the puskesmas in the village.

"Puskesmas also only provides medicine for pain and antibiotics. So it's too late because the virus has spread to all of the children's bodies," he added.

"Even though he was referred to Soe Hospital, he still couldn't be helped," said Ria Tahun.
