JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo denied that the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, which was later discussed for spreading deviant Islamic teachings, received protection from the Palace people. President Jokowi conveyed this when answering reporters' questions about the news circulating that Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko was protecting Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, even though the Islamic boarding school was said to be spreading deviant and even affiliated with the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII). Jokowi also asked the public to be patient to wait for the government's actions against the boarding school. "Yes, be patient. The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the Minister of Religion, I have ordered to explore, to explore. Later when the results are there, I will convey," added Jokowi. The head of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Panji Gumilang, is considered to have taught heretical teachings because, among other things, he said that prayers between male and female worshipers can be joined in one row, allowing adultery and sin to be redeemed for money, and will establish Christian pesantren. Panji Gumilang also gave a speech by admitting that he was in the form of communism. According to the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Ponpes Al Zaytun has been researching the Islamic boarding school since 2002 and revealed the controversy related to the doctrine of teachings, institutional affiliation and religious concepts it understands. MUI found indications of irregularities in religious understanding in the problem of zakat fitrah and qurban applied by Al Zaytun leaders, as contained in Al Zaytun magazine, to the leadership aspects of Panji Gumilang and a number of foundation administrators who are close to the NII organization KW IX. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD has conveyed that there will be three actions in handling the polemic of Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School activities. First, the handling of alleged criminal acts in Al Zaytun will be handed over to the police. The second is the provision of administrative sanctions to Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding Schools which have educational institutions in stages up to the tertiary level. Meanwhile, the third action that will be taken is to maintain order and security during the handling of the Al Zaytun polemic. In this case, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs will continue to coordinate with the West Java Provincial Government.
