MANADO - The Volcano Observation Post hopes that residents will be aware of the slide of volcanic material from Mount Karangetang in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, when it rains.

"We hope that residents who live around rivers or rivers that originate from the top of the crater are careful," said Head of PGA Karangetang Post, Yudia P Tatipang in Manado, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 20.

According to him, lava melting is still being monitored and has the potential to build up volcanic material at the top of the crater.

As a result of the buildup of volcanic material, the potential for hot clouds of avalanches may include the slide of volcanic material carried away due to heavy rains.

Moreover, according to Yudia, in the last few days, rain with moderate to heavy intensity has often flushed the Siau Island area where Mount Karangetang is located.

"The volcanic material, which was previously at the top, moved downwards. We hope that residents remain vigilant," he said.

Yudia said, during the observation period at 00.00 - 06.00 WITA, visually Mount Karengetang looked foggy, while crater smoke was not observed and the sound of avalanches / lava avalanches sounded weak to moderate.

Eight avalanche earthquakes were recorded with an amplitude of between 10-30 millimeters, with a duration of between 40-70 seconds, also recorded three times hybrid/many-phase earthquakes with an amplitude of 10 millimeters, S-P: 0 seconds, with a duration of 13 seconds.

Two distant tectonic earthquakes were also recorded with an amplitude of between 30-40 millimeters, S-P: 35-40 seconds with a duration of 173 seconds.

"It is still recorded a continuous tremor (Microtremor) with an amplitude of 0.25 - 1 millimeter, dominantly 0.25 millimeters. The avalanche earthquake decreased, while the activity level of Mount Karangetang was on alert level III," he said.
