Radicalism And The Rolling Taliban Issue, NU Responds To Aswaja

JAKARTA - The issue of radicalism is said to be attacking state institutions. Novel Baswedan, a senior investigator from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), said the issue was being used to attack his institution.

According to Novel, the radical-Taliban issue is often used by corrupt supporters. Himself said if it was not true and made it up.

Long before the issue of taliban in the KPK, radicalism in Indonesia had occurred nearly a century ago. This then triggered the birth of the Nahdlatul Ulama or NU organization.

Reported by VOI from the official website of The Wahid Institute, NU was founded on January 31, 1926 in response to the rise of Islamic radicalism movements in Indonesia. Until then NU echoed "Aswaja".

Aswaja or "Ahlus Sunnah Waljamaah" is a concept that emphasizes the actualization of Islamic values in the form of ta'âdul (justice), tawâzun (balance), tawassuth (moderate), tasâmuh (tolerance), and ishlâhîyah (improvement / reformative).

Furthermore, Aswaja's ideas were formulated on the basis of NU thinking or Fikrah Nahdhîyah. Until now, Aswaja's views on the body of NU have been used as the basis for determining the direction of struggle for the improvement of the umat or "ishlâh al-ummah".

Some of the actualizations of the Aswaja concept that were carried out included the acceptance of the colonial legal system by NU. The reason NU accepted the law was because in a state of emergency the state could not be empty of the legal system.

Then related to the way that NU has taken to ward off radicalism in Indonesia is by actualizing Aswaja's values to community and educational institutions.

Katib Syuriyah PBNU 2015-2020, Sa'dullah Affandy, through his writing said that Aswaja is a paradigm which is a reflection of NU's attitude.

According to Sa'dullah, NU has a view that is always calculated on the basis of legal considerations that lead to mashlahah and mafsadah aspects. This has made the Aswaja NU concept a way of evaluating and imaging Islam as rahmatan lil 'alamin.
