KENDARI - Kendari Police, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), named two students of Halu Oleo University (UHO) with the initials NI (22) and SF (20) as suspects in beating their juniors with the initials WAP (19).

Kendari Police Chief Kombes Muhammad Eka Fathurrahman said the two were named as suspects based on evidence found when the police conducted an investigation.

"Yes, it is true (NI and SF were named as suspects)," said Eka Fathurrahman, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, June 4.

The two female students who were named as suspects were subject to Article 170 of the Criminal Code concerning Beatings with a maximum threat of 5 years and 6 months in prison.

"We apply Article 170 of the Criminal Code," he said.

Before being named a suspect, the police had tried to mediate with both parties. However, the mediation did not find a good common ground.

It is known that the beating began when the victim and his team-mates were called to pick up the daily official clothes (PDH) at the Vocational Building, UHO Kendari, on Thursday (1/6) at around 15.00 WITA.

"The victim and his teammates from 2021 went straight to the PDH clothes collection site. However, when they arrived there, the victim and colleagues were not immediately given PDH clothes, but were given a number of directions by their seniors which lasted until Friday (2/6) in the morning," said Eka Fathurrahman.

After completing the direction given by the WAP senior, the two perpetrators with the initials SF and NI then distributed PDH clothes to the victim and his colleagues while beating them.

The beating resulted in the victim suffering bruises on his face.

"So the motive is a kind of campus tradition. Juniors who will take faculty uniforms must be taken from their seniors. However, the way to hand over the clothes is done is in ways that violate the rules, apparently the seniors carried out the persecution," said Eka Fathurrahman.

For the mistreatment carried out by NI and SF, WAP suffered injuries to his face, bruises on his cheeks. In fact, WAP teeth had bleeding.

"Until now, the victim is still undergoing medical treatment at the Kendari City General Hospital (Regional General Hospital). Meanwhile, the two female students with the initials NI and SF who carried out the beatings have been secured at the Poasia Police Headquarters," he explained.
